All you need is love… and code… and music!

A few projects for Valentine’s Day

Today, I was tasked to find some good Music Blocks activities for a class, and I couldn’t quite remember what projects already existed. Since Valentine’s Day only happens once a year and with so many projects on the Planet (Music Blocks server), it’s easy to forget what projects are available. That’s why I’m taking the time to publish some of the projects that are already on the Planet, so that you can find them when you need them. Here’s what I found!

“All you need is love” greeting card with hearts and music

This project is my personal favorite. It plays the beginning of the song “All you need is love” by the Beetles while generating hearts that frame an image of your choice. You can replace the image with that of a loved one, and personalize the message if you like.

(New!) Mathematical heart

I found this project on the planet today when searching for the word “heart.” Basically, it does a fancy computation to generate the heart shape. My addition today was to add the grand staff and play notes when it’s drawing (when it is not drawing, the music rests), and it plays a note whose pitch is based on the placement of the pen on the screen.

Heart and soul

This project is a Music Blocks transcription of the classic Hoagy Carmichael classic “Heart and soul.” The project is very satisfying to listen to, and is a good example of some of the things that Music Blocks can do.

(New!) Remix of Hypnotic Heart with “Heart and soul”

This project also started from a search of the word “heart.” I found this very satisfying generation of a heart that a Google Code-In student made a few years ago. Then, I merged a transcription of “Heart and soul” that I found on the Planet. This is the result.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

That’s it for this year! If you create any new projects that you think would be a good addition to a “Valentine’s Day list,” or to be featured next year, please feel free to share a link in the comment box below. Otherwise, I hope that this helps anyone who is looking for a good Valentine’s Day coding activity. Cheers!
