Music Blocks software workshop proposal was accepted to the 2016 Constructionism conference, which was hosted this year in Bangkok, Thailand!

For the day before the start of the official conference, the Music Blocks team arranged a hands-on workshop with students at the Darunsikkhalai School for Innovative Learning.

First, Devin Ulibarri and Guest Artist, Duangpon Pongphasuk (“Pui” for short), demonstrated basic concepts important to music through singing and plastic cups.

Students were also asked to sing and to manipulate the cups, exploring musical form (“stacks” in the computer-coding world) in the process.

Students were then given time to explore music blocks on their own and come up with their own melodies.

Lastly, students presented their work to the group, and as a class we discussed the musical concepts that each of the blocks in the Music Blocks visual programming language represents.
